M. Brian Fennerty, MD

M. Brian Fennerty, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Fennerty received his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Albany and his MD from Creighton University in Nebraska.  He performed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Fennerty has published more than 300 papers, book chapters, and abstracts including 9 papers in the N Engl J Med, JAMA and Ann Intern Med and another 16 papers in Gastroenterology and 21 in GIE. He is the past and Founding Editor of JournalWatch Gastroenterology for 19 years and past Associate Editor of American Journal of Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Clinical Perspectives in Gastroenterology.

Dr. Fennerty is a past member and current consultant of the FDA Advisory Panel on Gastrointestinal and Urological Devices as well as the past chair of the Imaging and Advanced Technology section of the AGA, the Research Committee of the ASGE and PI of the AGA’s CGIT Star project. Dr. Fennerty served as a Councilor, Secretary and President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) from 2002-2013. Dr. Fennerty also served as a member of the Gastroenterology Committee for the ABIM (2004-2011) and Chair of the Gastroenterology SEP Committee of the ABIM (2006-2015).
