Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer
Irving Pike serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for John Muir Health. He is the system’s first CMO and has served in this capacity since 2012. He serves as a key member of the system’s leadership team and provides medical and clinical leadership, expertise and perspective throughout the organization. His areas of responsibility include Quality and Patient Safety, the Medical Staff Office, Accreditation, Graduate Medical Education, Clinical Integration, Clinical Research and Risk Management. He also serves on several of John Muir Health’s joint venture Boards. He has an additional role as the President of the John Muir Specialty Medical Group.
Prior to joining John Muir Health, Irving spent twelve yeas as a physician executive with Sentara Healthcare while actively practicing gastroenterology for 29 years in an ever-evolving gastroenterology practice. He spent a majority of the time with Sentara as Vice President of Medical Affairs of one of the system’s hospitals. Irving remains active in the American College of Gastroenterology currently serving as the Immediate Past President. He was instrumental in the development of the GIQuIC quality registry for gastroenterologists.
Irving is a graduate of Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
